Today the FDA ruled that all prescription medications containing acetaminophen must update the labels on their containers to warn of liver failure. The change also asserts a new limit of 325 milligrams of the medication in a single dose to reduce the risk of liver damage.
This mandate does not apply to over-the-counter medications containing the drug, such as Tylenol®, but rather combination prescriptions painkillers like Vicodin® or Percocet®. According to the FDA, this move was made to curtail overdoses from these products which account for close to half of all cases of acetaminophen-related liver failure. The FDA assured patients currently taking these medications that there is no immediate danger to them and that they should continue taking medications as prescribed.
If you believe that you have been injured by Tylenol, contact a medical profession immediately. If they determine you have suffered, you may be able to file a lawsuit over liver failure from Tylenol.
